Post Mileage
Just wondering, what's considered high mileage for a ZZR 400, My J plate has now gone round 40,000 miles(changed the speedo from KM's), is it about shagged? :-)

Other than the 2 oil and filter changes I've given it in the last year, and a set of plugs, I know nothing of it's previous history. It does rattle a bit so I hope to do the shims this winter if it last that long! :-)

Would have though 50K would be considered high, but it depends on the age. You're is 17 years old so 40,000 miles only translates as 2,500 per year.

At around 75K you might see issues, but keep it regularly serviced and you'll have no trouble, I'm sure :P

I always double the mileage to relate it to cars, as the engines spin approx twice as fast as cars.

So your 40k equates to an 80k car; would you consider that high? I reckon car mileage is getting marginal at above 150k; so about 75k on a bike.....

Also dependant on pilot treatment/service intervals.

HTH

:P

I guess 2500miles a year is nothing, but I was thinking along the lines of MarkG that it's a small engine working hard(especially so with my lardy arse sitting on it! :D )

Anyway, as long as it keeps going I'll keep riding it. Think I have a warped clutch disk somewhere as it's a real pain to slip it, you get a real juddery on/off sort of feeling! Oh well, other things are getting my wallets attention first so that'll have to wait!

jacko, check your cush drive and chain slack, it can 'bounce' and make it much harder to pull away smoothly.

The cush shouldnt have any play in it, just get some old inner tube or similar to pack it out and it'll be all good again, with no cost!

Or its the clutch plates.

My 600 has done 78,000km.
My zxr250 has done the same, and its fairly happy, gearbox is showing its age tho. But those are 78000km of thrash learner miles, with a 19k redline regularly touched.

If you check that things are within spec, she should be good for a while yet.

Just brought another zxr250, got some restoration to do, and then that will be money in the bank!

Chain is slightly slack (as picked up by the MOT man!) but the cush drive is fine, as I had that off a while back and packed it out with some old conveyor belt, doing that certainly made the bike nicer to ride. Will adjust the chain tonight hopefully.

Cheers all
